About me
My name is Pete Martin, of Te Rarawa and Scottish descent, living in Waiuku, Auckland. Outside of my ACC advocacy work, I help my wife operate a boxing and functional fitness gym in Waiuku, where we also run a free men’s health programme every Sunday. I’m passionate about waka ama and the wellbeing, connection, and confidence it brings to our community.
I am an ACC Dispute Resolution Specialist with over 20 years of experience across the health, injury insurance, and medico‑legal sectors. My background spans ACC operations, private health insurance, ACC legal adjudication (ICRA), accredited employer schemes, and more than a decade of running small to medium businesses. This breadth gives me a practical, end‑to‑end understanding of how decisions are made, how evidence is weighed, and how to navigate complex claims with clarity and precision.
Seventeen years at ACC provided deep insight into its internal processes and decision‑making frameworks. I later spent three years in private health insurance, two years in legal adjudication, and two years supporting accredited employers. For the past two years I have worked independently as an ACC advocate, helping hundreds of New Zealanders resolve disputes, challenge incorrect decisions, and secure fair outcomes.
I work closely with specialists across the North Island and have established strong, trusted relationships with leading orthopaedic groups in South Auckland and Tauranga — many of whom exclusively use my services for their patients requiring ACC support. These partnerships allow me to integrate clinical evidence, causation analysis, and statutory interpretation in a way that strengthens each client’s case.
I work in a culturally responsive way, supporting people from diverse backgrounds, languages, and communities, and adapting my communication to meet their needs with respect and clarity. Whether preparing a causation argument, coordinating specialist input, or representing clients at review, I focus on delivering outcomes that are fair, robust, and aligned with ACC law.
