My name is Peniamina Mauili, and currently working for the Department of Corrections. Here is a brief account of a work related incident that no one cares about.

Everything was fine in the beginning. When I got injured at work, was granted leave from Health Professionals and got paid as per normal. Until one day money stopped coming. A decision based on some independent expert advice that ongoing symptoms were not incident related but of a degenerative nature. 

It was a time of great uncertainty, uncertain as to where things would lead to in the end. I was pressured to do this and that, but still unsure whether I have a job to go to when the dust settles. A very stressful time to a point where quitting seemed a good option, however I have a family to feed and bills to pay. The system was not working in my  favour plus I didn’t know who to turn to.

For some strange reason when hope seemed fading away, Pete Martin’s contact information was given to me. After our first communication and our goals were established, Pete started working tirelessly behind the scene fighting for what we believe was right.

The best part in the whole process was I didn’t have to do anything. I only had to give facts and then wait patiently. The hard work was done entirely by Pete. In the end my case was reopened and the initial decision to stop payment from ACC and my surgery to be done through Public Health, was overturned.

I now in the process of getting my hand healed as the operation was done successfully two weeks ago.
